Brown and white corundum

Brown corundum is a brown artificial corundum produced by smelting reduced bauxite, carbon and iron filings in an electric arc furnace. The main chemical composition of brown corundum is Al2O3, with the contents of 95.0% and 97.00% respectively, and a small amount of Fe, Si, Ti and other elements. Brown corundum is the most basic abrasive. The artificial abrasive made of white corundum contains more than 99% aluminum oxide (Al2O3) and a small amount of iron oxide, silicon oxide and other components, which is white. So, what's the difference between brown corundum and white corundum?

Differences between brown and white corundum:

1. Different raw materials：The raw material of brown corundum is bauxite, as well as anthracite and Tiexiao. The raw material of white corundum is aluminum oxide powder.

2. Different purposes：Brown corundum can be used to manufacture ceramics, resin high consolidation abrasive tools, grinding, polishing, sand blasting, precision casting, etc., and can also be used to manufacture advanced refractory materials. White corundum is suitable for grinding high carbon steel, high speed steel, stainless steel and other fine grain abrasives. White corundum can also be used for precision casting and advanced refractory materials.

3. Different performance：Brown corundum is characterized by high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, low linear expansion coefficient and corrosion resistance. White corundum has the characteristics of high purity, good self sharpening, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and stable thermal performance. In comparison, the hardness of white corundum is higher than that of brown corundum.

4. Different components：Although both brown corundum and white corundum contain alumina, the alumina content of white corundum is more than 99%, and that of brown corundum is about 95%.

5. Different colors：As the alumina content of white corundum is higher than that of brown corundum, the white corundum is white and the brown corundum is brown black.

6. Different production：White corundum is produced with aluminum oxide powder (as raw materials for electrolytic aluminum), while brown corundum is produced with calcined bauxite.

7. Different objects：White corundum is used by some high-end users because of its good cutting strength and polishing effect. It is mainly used for carbon steel, alloy steel, malleable iron, hard bronze, etc., while brown corundum is widely used in the market and is also widely used in the market, mainly for fire steel, high-speed steel, high carbon steel, etc.

White corundum has strong cutting force, which is used to remove metal or non-metal burrs, pre batch burrs, etc. It has the function of polishing part surface and belongs to medium polishing abrasive. Brown corundum is used to remove surface burrs of stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum alloy and other hardware parts. The grinding of brown corundum is not as delicate and bright as that of white corundum.
